White Sox Outright Daniel Palka
By Jeff Todd | November 25, 2019 at 9:19pm CDTThe White Sox reported today that they have outrighted outfielder Daniel Palka (by means of MLB.com’s Scott Merkin, on Twitter). He was assigned as of late to clear program space for the marking of Yasmani Grandal.
Palka, 28, turned in a strong appearing at the plate in his 2018 debut. While he went down on strikes 153 times in 449 plate appearances and finished with a .294 on-base rate, he conveyed enough power (27 grand slams, .484 slugging rate) to be a better than expected generally speaking entertainer with the bat.
Issue was, Palka wasn’t capable in the outfield, where he evaluated ineffectively. He expected to make further walks in one or the two zones to bolt up a list spot. Rather, he battled seriously in restricted MLB risks in 2019, posting a dreadful .107/.194/.179 cut in 93 excursions to the plate.
Some group will in any case readily offer the amazing Palka a non-list greeting on a minors bargain. Prominently, he demonstrated improved plate discipline during his time at Triple-An in 2019. Offense was up all over the place, so there’s no motivation to lose control with the .900 OPS and 27 dingers he conveyed at Charlotte. In any case, Palka has at no other time dealt with a K/BB blend like the 109 strikeouts and 72 strolls he counted in 471 plate appearances.
