“I was around mental inability growing up, and I have a weakness in my heart for it. Those are extremely exceptional people,” he said. “I felt so awful that I was even disturbed. I simply needed to ensure that he didn’t feel terrible.”

With Rivas deciphering, Matthews met with the fan, gave him an embrace and marked a glove.

“I gave him a hug and I asked him, ‘Hello, would you say you are doing OK? Are you having a great time?’ I simply needed to ensure he was living it up, that he had no hard emotions, that he didn’t feel awful about what occurred,” Matthews said. “I would not like to anybody to be frantic at him. I didn’t need him to be distraught at himself. I needed to ensure he realized that I wasn’t distraught. That is all I needed to do.”

“He was upbeat,” Rivas included, alluding to the fan. “His name is Juan. [Matthews said], ‘I am heartbroken. I trust you delighted in the golf. This is for you. Much obliged to you.’ That’s essentially what he let him know.”
